Fate Saga is a fantastical, action/drama animated series about fate and free will, and follows Cain, a knight who can see the future. With only glimpses of prophecies to guide him, Cain interferes in natural disasters and war in hopes of stopping his tragic visions from happening.

However, in a world on the brink of an apocalypse, is knowing the final outcome enough to change it?

Fate Saga is an original animated action/drama series taking place in a fantastical world based on Medieval Europe.

Fate Saga/Taffetas: Awkward Dinner Conversation

This is a sketch I did based off of a hilarious crossover scenario for if Fate Saga's Larkspur and Cain went out to a couple's dinner with Taffetas' Veil and Gemini. While Cain and Veil are the first ones to start bringing the dinner mood downhill, Larkspur's attempts to lighten the mood are what inevitably brings the meal to a violent end.

Last Day to Vote for Fate Saga in the Animation Magazine 2011 Pitch Party Contest!

First off, if you haven't had a chance to do so, please vote for Fate Saga in the Animation Pitch Party! High executives in the industry will be looking at this, and if it does well it may open up opportunities!

To vote, go onto the Animation Magazine website link here, select the bullet point underneath FATE SAGA's entry, then scroll to the bottom of the page, enter your email address and click SUBMIT!

Thank you so much! Please help Fate Saga gain recognition in the Animation and Television industry! Every vote counts!

For anyone who was brought here from the Pitch Party contest, welcome! And thank you for your interest and participation! I hope you will stay and take a look around at what the Fate Saga production blog has to offer!

It has certainly been an exciting week, and one that has given me much hope for Fate Saga's future. This contest may open doors to the big break Fate Saga needs - but at the very least it was great exposure and one I intend to take advantage of. Regardless of whether Fate Saga wins the online voting contest, it will be featured along with the other contestants for the Animation Magazine's July issue, which will be distributed for free at the San Diego Comic Con for those who will be attending. I will not be there, but I certainly plan to order a copy!

Again, a big thank you to everyone who took the time to vote, and again for simply for coming by to check out the story's progress and for your interest!

Oh Lukas, You Sexy Beast, by Yesenia Carrero

This is Lukas, all gussied up and ready to go, by my very talented and amazing friend Yesenia Carrero! His design is based off of an older version of Lukas. In the beginning of 2011, Lukas went through a dramatic character design and personality change. Before then, he had been flamboyant and obsessed with human fashion and make-up. His current version still has the obsession with humans and humanoids, but now it's taken to a far more creepy and villainous level, to make him more compelling enemy as well as a more worthy subordinate to Armand.

Feel free to check out her blog and her original series co-created with Tracy MacLauchlan, The Taffetas!

Thank you: 50 Likes on Facebook!

Fate Saga now has more than 50 "likes" on Facebook! Thank you everyone for your incredible enthusiasm and support! And what better expression of my love and gratitude than an adorable baby animal version of Rori and Lukas? Both are apparently drugged (at least with candy) because neither of them are ever this sweet. HUR HUR HUR!!

Lukas and Rori are together here only because they are the easiest characters to baby-animalify. Look at their googly eyes! They are so thankful!

Voting is Now Open at Animation Magazine Pitch Party

Fate Saga is now open for voting on the Animation Magazine's Pitch Party! Please vote for Fate Saga, and encourage every man, woman, child, animal, alien and mythical creature to do the same! http://www.animationmagazine.net/pitch-party-2011-vote/

All you have to do is select the Fate Saga entry, then scroll to the bottom of the page... and add your email address (which will only be used to send you a receipt of your vote) and click SUBMIT!

If we win, it will not only mean more attention and prestige for this project, but also more ad space in their magazine, our pitch reviewed by executives in the animation industry and the possibility to pitch the series directly to the judge of our choice! This is an incredible opportunity and we greatly need your help to see this happen!

Happy Father's Day from Fate Saga!

I was originally going to do a little postcard-type picture like I had done for Easter and Mother's Day, but then this comic came to mind and I figured it was about time to have something that shows a little more insight into the characters.

Drax is a very greedy, materialistic little Draken. And apparently he's going shopping with Cyrus. What are they shopping for? Probably some pants. It's a little hard for a mercenary to be inconspicuous running around in a dress. And Cyrus has managed not to make a scene in public thus far. Good for him! Even if Cyrus is unwittingly being a debbie downer!

Cyrus doesn't prefer to reveal much about his background, and Drax isn't the type to ask. However, Cyrus doesn't know what he is expected to know about the world, which comes across at times like these.

So where does Cyrus come from? A beam of light? Thin air? Did he split like an amoeba? Was he raised by a pack of wolves?

But, most importantly, will Drax find a way to capitalize on the holiday before it's over? The world may never know.

The Pitch Section has been Updated in Preparation for Kickstarter

The pitch section now has the newest version of the pitch video as well as the descriptions and list of rewards in preparation for Kickstarter. Fate Saga will be launched on Kickstarter on July 20. Between then and now, I will be taking additional pictures of the merchandise and fix any mistakes in the description and adjust the rewards based off of any critiques I may get.

Everything in the pitch section of this blog is subject to change as we prepare to launch for Kickstarter. If there's anything wrong with the pitch, the video, description, if the rewards could be more enticing or if there's anything else I could add, please let me know!

Fate Saga Video Pitch version 3

video

The entire sound track was re-recorded, and I re-recorded the beginning and ending sequence in a different environment decorated with Fate Saga merchandise.

Please let me know if there is anything about the pitch that you don't like, or is unclear, too fast/slow, is my voice clear and exciting enough, if there is anything about the choice of visuals that don't look right (either with me, myself during the presentation, or the Fate Saga footage). Feel free to be nitpicky, I want the pitch to be as close to perfect as possible.

Fate Saga Video Pitch version 2

video

Here is the second draft to the Fate Saga video pitch. The dialogue should be much shorter and more cohesive now, and I also tried to make myself sound more exciting. I need to re-record all of the narrative again because sometimes there's a change in my voice that is jarring, and also the hum of the air conditioner can be heard through some of it. I'm also designing a Fate Saga t-shirt and am going to change the location of the beginning and ending sequences, but I need to do a little preparation and set-dressing for it. The next version will be ready by next Thursday.

In the meantime, how does the new version look/sound?

Cain Maquette Sketches

And here is a batch of Cain quick gestures for a maquette. Although I drew Cain's cape in these sketches, I anticipate that a cape would be a bear to do in a maquette and it would be easy enough to remove during the rendering stage. I'll let Uzi decide.

Cyrus Maquette Pose Sketches

Uzi Souza, Fate Saga's very own modeler and texture artist, is going to be making Cyrus and Cain maquettes - insert excited frolicking- and she asked for some help with posing. So I'm currently whipping up a few Cyrus and Cain quick gestures for her to choose from. Once she picks the sketches that she likes, I'll render it out.

You may recognize the Cyrus on the top right of the second image. That Cyrus is fully rendered only because that picture had already been drawn awhile back for a 3D model done about a year ago.

I am happy to announce that Fate Saga's submission was accepted by Savannah College of Art and Design to be sent to Animation World Network's Pitch Party! Graduation

Graduating Bianca, Vektor and Lukas. I figured it would be fun to celebrate with some of the villains. The heroes can't have all of the fun.

This weekend, I returned to Savannah College of Art and Design to do the graduation walk. For those who may not know me, from the moment I first applied to SCAD's Master of Fine Arts program, I knew I wanted to try and use Fate Saga as my Thesis. It had been a long and arduous process of trying to figure out how to put together all of the ideas and stories together in a Thesis film, and what would be worth talking about in the written component.

SCAD's MFA Thesis for the Animation program consists of a visual and written component that had to be related. The paper was not meant to be an extended artist's statement, so simply talking about the process was not enough. There had to be a concept that united both the paper and project. We have until 5 years after we start the graduate program to complete the Thesis, and very few students complete the Thesis by the time they complete their classes. With a lot of support and hard work, I was lucky to complete the Thesis literally on my last day of my last class.

Although school is finished, and the portion of Fate Saga that qualified as my Thesis are complete, now begins the new journey. The Thesis was a taste of what I wanted to do with Fate Saga, and helped me to prepare for my future plans with it.

It was both exciting to do the graduation walk with some of the amazing friends that I've made at SCAD, and sad that we're all now going our separate ways. However, at the same time, it's the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. I have no doubt that, one way or another, given a few years we'll all be somewhere in the industry. I am excited to see everyone's dreams coming true.

Seiron: My Boy

This was a gift art that I made for Tracy, featuring Fate Saga's Seiron and The Taffeta's Veil (as a little kid...don't ask.) Seiron is dressed in The Taffetas' 1950's style clothing. Despite being a large, imposing and powerful gargoyle defending the political figurehead of Duero, Seiron is normally gentle and doting, which is what I wanted to emphasize with this drawing, here.

Cyrus and Guile Commission from Tiggerfactory

This was an commission I purchased from the incredibly talented Tiggerfactory several years ago. I had commissioned her for two Fate Saga characters (I let her choose) and told her that the chosen two can either be standing as allies or fighting against each other. The rest is history!

Both Cyrus and Guiles' designs and personalities have changed a lot since then, but it's still fun to look back at older artwork.
