Fate Saga is a fantastical, action/drama animated series about fate and free will, and follows Cain, a knight who can see the future. With only glimpses of prophecies to guide him, Cain interferes in natural disasters and war in hopes of stopping his tragic visions from happening.

However, in a world on the brink of an apocalypse, is knowing the final outcome enough to change it?

Fate Saga is an original animated action/drama series taking place in a fantastical world based on Medieval Europe.

Cyrus Poster Design

Cyrus poster by Dana Corrigan

In anticipation of Anime Festival Orlando, I've been working on Fate Saga posters, prints and preparing for the panel. I had to make one for Fate Saga's resident fire-wielding psychopath, Cyrus!

I wanted to give the scythe a little bit of curvature to show motion, and during the inking process in Photoshop, I couldn't avoid that wobbliness that sometimes happens when trying to ink by hand. I eventually decided to skip the scythe in Photoshop, and draw it using the pen tool in Illustrator. I love me some pen tool.

The first draft of Cyrus' poster showed him more from the front, and I intended to show him wielding the magic more than using his scythe just because I worried that the vertical layout of the poster would make it hard to show the scythe in an action pose. But once I had this sketch down, I found it boring and with a poor silhouette. I tried a few different versions of this pose, but none of them worked and I ultimately abandoned it to focus on posing him dramatically with the scythe.

Lukas - Scott Smith Audition

video
Lukas Audition by Scott Smith

Here is an updated Lukas voice audition, by Scott Smith. It's amazing how much versatility Scott has with his voice. Several times during the recording, I had asked him if his throat was alright - as I'm pretty sure my voice box would just fall right out of my throat if I tried to make a sound like that come out of it, but he was fine.

Overall, the audition was a lot of fun to record, and Scott's great to work with! We both concluded that Lukas is a creeper.

Bianca Poster

In preparation for Anime Festival Orlando's art table, I have been designing some Fate Saga prints and posters. Here is a poster for Fate Saga's seductive elven sorceress, Bianca Karangelon. Bianca can wield elemental magic of all types. Though she tends to be predisposed towards using Earth and Fire the most, I have already recently drawn Cyrus wielding fire (which is the only element he's good at), so I wanted to draw Bianca wielding something different. I figured summoning a mighty tidal wave would be fun. I also figured the blue would make Bianca stand out more.

Water's always been a challenge for me, as it always tends to look too 'solid', like it's a jell of some kind. I still have a ways to go with getting better with water, but I think it actually passes as water in this poster.

Character Emotion Study

These are some sketches I did to practice how different Fate Saga characters react to the same emotions or situations. Part of a good character design is knowing his or her personality and how they react to not only the events within the plot, but how they would react to anything in general. It's a great way to give the cast more three-dimensionality and make sure that their expressions are not only readable, but also maintain that person's attitude and personality.

From left to right, top to bottom it's: Lukas, Drax, Seiron, Cyrus, Malachi, Bianca, Cain, Larkspur, Rori and Guile

Fate Saga Fan Art

Hi everyone! This week I'm going to present to you some lovely gift and fan art that I've received for Fate Saga throughout the last few weeks, some from Metrocon! I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed receiving them!

Baby Seiron planting a seedling, by The Taffetas' co-creator Yesenia Carrero. This was drawn during a Drawing Jam Yesenia, Tracy and I had earlier this month! I absolutely love the style! He's so sensitive!

Cain and Larkspur by Taffetas Co-Creator Tracy MacLauchlan. This was drawn during a Drawing Jam Yesenia, Tracy and I had earlier this month! I love the composition and tone of the whole image! Poor Larkspur looks exhausted!
Larkspur by Eqra Kazi, drawn at Metrocon 2012. At most conventions, I will go to the Artist Alley and commission one of the artists for a Fate Saga sketch. She was the artist I commissioned at Metrocon. I love how feminine Larkspur looks here!

Guile, drawn by Vincent Miller. This was given to me as a gift during the Metrocon 2012 Fate Saga panels. Thanks so much, Vincent! Guile looks ready to take on the world!

Cain versus Armand, by Nic Witthoeft. This was a gift given to me during the Fate Saga panels at Metrocon 2012. Thanks so much, Nic!! Armand looks so imposing, but Cain can do it!

Rori Orvik, by Max Rauer, done during Holiday Matsuri 2011. Every convention, I usually scope out the Artist Alley and commission one of the artists for a Fate Saga sketch. Thanks so much, Max!!

Chibi Rori, by Max Rauer, done during Holiday Matsuri 2012. This one he made out of the kindness of his heart. Thanks so much, Max! I love her little shrug. It's like she's saying "What am I supposed to do here, again?"

Thank you so much for your time, creativity and support!!

Cain vs Vektor Poster (Updated)

Artwork by Dana Corrigan

For the pitch book, I redid Vektor and Cain's fight poster from last year. The most dramatic change is the update of Cain's design and minor adjustments to Vektor (such as shortening his hair and tweaking his colors). The background is exactly the same.

Cain and Rori Argument Updated

Artwork by Dana Corrigan

For the pitch book, instead of making entirely new graphics, sometimes I went back to older works and redid them. Originally, the Cain/Rori argument drawing was a test of their new designs, but other than a few issues I liked the tension between them. I wanted to push the intensity of their argument, and show the different ways Cain and Rori display fury. Cain may be much taller than she is, but Rori isn't about to be intimidated.
