Fate Saga is a fantastical, action/drama animated series about fate and free will, and follows Cain, a knight who can see the future. With only glimpses of prophecies to guide him, Cain interferes in natural disasters and war in hopes of stopping his tragic visions from happening.

However, in a world on the brink of an apocalypse, is knowing the final outcome enough to change it?

Fate Saga is an original animated action/drama series taking place in a fantastical world based on Medieval Europe.

Larkspur Sketches

Lately, I've been inspired to draw Fate Saga, but have been so incredibly busy these past few weeks that I really haven't had time to. Finally, recently I had a little extra time before bed and did a bunch of quick roughs. I clustered all of Larkspur's roughs together for this sketch dump.

Her hair is different in some of the sketches because in the story, she eventually loses her bandana. She would probably have a different outfit at that point as well, but I haven't designed her later outfits so right now it's all her original attire.  Some of these sketches are from scenes I have in mind, but I kept out anything spoilerish. So whatever she's reacting to, you can make up.

There will likely be more sketch dumps in the future, once I add a few more drawings of some of the other characters.

I hope you like it!

Mascot

Fate Saga itself doesn't really have a 'mascot' figure, nor do I really intend for it to.  The series is a little mature, most likely, to have an iconic little animal friend.  That being said, I spent a few months starting at the end of last year up until recently working on revamping my portfolio.  Usually, animators will use a mascot figure or an avatar of themselves (whether it's a cartoon version of themselves, a fursona, or an invented character meant to represent them personally).  My old mascot, still featured on my website until it's eventually remodel, served as that cute little dragon animal friend.  I chose the little blue dragon because many years ago, I used to go by a pseudonym of "Sapphire Dragon Studios," which I still occasionally use.

Now that I go by my own name more often, I intended to retire the little blue dragon mascot and use someone else.  It took me awhile to figure out what I wanted to do.  First, I tried some cartoon versions of myself and, while I didn't dislike how they came out, they just didn't feel right.  So I thought about using a mascot, again.  A lot of artists use a main character from their largest projects, thesis or senior films, so I started thinking about Fate Saga.

Who would be a good 'mascot' figure for Fate Saga?  Despite being the main 'animal' of the group, Rori was immediately discarded as a candidate because wolves have definitely been done before, and she's way too mean looking.  I'd scare any clients away.  Mascots are usually fun, friendly and approachable creatures.  Thinking on that line, the answer came to me pretty easily:  Seiron.

He's sweet, friendly, approachable, more unique in design than any other beastial character in Fate Saga's cast, and his well-dressed appearance might help make the art he's featured on - and myself - more professional.

So while this isn't a piece for Fate Saga in particular, here is "Mascot Seiron" as featured on the front of my Digital flatbook.  His wings are lightened so it won't conflict with the text:

OC Art X-Change March part 2: Hao

This was the other half of the Art X-Change, drawn by JayJayRey.  The prompt was simply to draw our characters meeting for the first time, and I was lucky enough to get JayJayRey as my secret Santa-of-sorts.  JayJay drew her character, Satinka, meeting Cain for the first time.  I like how Cain looks like he had just woke up from sleeping outside (totally in character for him).  He hasn't had time yet to get confused and bewildered at this new, brightly colored critter greeting him!

Satinka herself is adorable.  She seems like a very friendly character.  It would be interesting to see how the two of them would interact beyond the initial 'hellos'!  Maybe that'll be explored in a future Art X-Change.

OC Art Exchange: I Think We've Met Before?

So about a month ago, I joined an OC group on DeviantART started by Myrcury-Art and a friend of mine and creator of Machinema, Jay Miller, that's all about drawing our original character(s) interacting with the original character(s) of another member chosen at random, based off of a prompt given every month.  I had been debating whether I was going to post my side of the prompts (or the prompts that the other person does for me) on this blog, but after what happened to my first month's post I have to answer with a resounding "yes!"

Why?  Is it because the above drawing is a shining example of Fate Saga?  Well, not so much for the above image but because of what it inspired:

In my original post on DeviantART, I mentioned that Elena looked as if she was peeping out of Cain's shirt (Elena, what are you doing in there?!), and then Jamie posed the question that we've all been wondering... what wouldn't she be doing in Cain's shirt?  And it spiraled into the insane and lovely sketch Tracy did above!  This is one of the reasons why I enjoy drawing/writing my original characters with others.  What fun shenanigans.
